If the following are true, you just might be in PR:
- You start your day by deciding which of the 100 new emails in your queue you can delete without reading.
- Two words: Google Alerts.
- A day off does not mean a day away from work email.
- You live by your calendar. If it’s not on there, it’s not happening.
- Your social media engagement is more business than social.
- You always proofread your Facebook posts and Tweets (and everyone else’s).
- You’re personally offended by other’s spelling and grammatical errors.
- You live by proofreader’s marks and your AP Style Guide.
- When reading an interesting news story, you can’t help but wonder who pitched it.
- Every time you’re at a public event you mentally dissect it to see what details were overlooked by its planners.
- An ad catches your eye and you try to figure out why.
- You read. Everything.
- You use baseball terminology constantly but never referring the sport: “pitch,” “hit” and “touching base” are just a few examples.
- You cringe when you hear the word “spin.”
- Your friends and family still don’t understand what you do for a living.
The list goes on, as I’m sure many of you can relate. As PR professionals, we’re in this boat together. Feel free to share what YOU would add to the list. There’s a good chance someone out there will say, “Hey, I do that!”
