Refuge House is the domestic and sexual violence center for Leon County and the seven neighboring counties in north Florida: Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla. Refuge House first opened its doors to provide emergency shelter on February 14, 1978, and later merged with Tallahassee Rape Crisis to also provide sexual violence services.
The mission of Refuge House is to provide direct services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and to their children and families, as well as to eliminate such violence through community education and public advocacy.
Refuge House is a feminist-based social justice agency. Management members work with staff to develop new programs for the empowerment of survivors and the communities we serve and generate solutions to problems. All employees are respectful of each other and work to create a harmonious and supportive environment for the benefit of participants and one another.
