TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer in the U.S. To promote better skin health in the Tallahassee community and celebrate their recent opening, Gulf Coast Dermatology is providing free skin cancer screenings on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Gulf Coast Dermatology principal Dr. Jon Ward believes that residents should be mindful of skin cancer even during the winter months.

“There is often a rise in tanning bed usage during the winter months when beach trips are less frequent,” said Dr. Ward. “When you combine the harmful side effects of tanning beds with the year-round sun exposure many Floridians experience, it becomes increasingly important for residents to have their skin screened on a regular basis. As with any form of cancer, early detection is the best form of treatment.

Screenings will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon and require an appointment.  Individuals wishing to schedule their free appointment can call (850) 386-3376 or visit the practice, located at 1350 Market St. on the second floor of the Market Street Plaza next to Atlanta Bread Company.
